The L-House was designed as a ranch-style house with Passive House objectives along with a strong integration into the surrounding landscape. L-House bifurcates the property creating 2 separate courtyards (the sunny pool / sauna courtyard and the shaded dining / entertainment courtyard), and is connected by a fully openable dining breezeway. The āLā of the house is divided between the public and private programming of the spaces - kitchen, living, and dining towards the front of the lot and bedrooms and bathrooms towards the back. The sunny pool courtyard opens to the south side of the house where most of the windows are located for passive design and looking onto a farmers field for a vast and serene view. Materials chosen are meant to be soft and responsive to the environmental surroundings including wood exteriors and interiors, muted brick tones, and soft green tone corrugated roof and wall cladding to blend into the natural surroundings.
